GBA Young Professionals Committee and Emory University HERCULES Exposome Research Center Presents: A Panel Discussion on the Westside Lead Superfund Site
Join The Georgia Brownfield Association’s Young Professionals Committee, Emory University’s HERCULES Exposome Research Center, and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division for a panel discussing the history, investigation, and cleanup of the Westside Lead Superfund Site in northwest Atlanta. A 2018 investigation done by an Emory University doctoral student discovered lead contamination in soil within urban gardens utilized by an Atlanta neighborhood. This initiated EPA investigations of over 80 acres of soil, Superfund site designation, and cleanup and remediation efforts spanning several years. Dr. Eri Saikawa of Emory, Henry Candela of Georgia EPD, and environmental attorney Brian Remler will discuss scientific perspectives, community involvement, and regulatory and remediation approaches at this complex site that’s close to home.
